Fire Sprinklers Minimize Flames, Save Residents

fire crews on sceneSacramento, CA.  Just after 1 a.m. on November 3, a fire at a senior independent- and assisted-living complex was snuffed out by fire sprinklers, holding back flames and minimizing injuries to three residents (all due to smoke inhalation) until fire crews arrived. None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

First-due fire crews completed extinguishing the flames and worked to evacuate 50 residents from units impacted by the fire and ensuing smoke.

The cause of the fire is thought to be an antique, electric piano, but investigators are still working to make a final determination of its origin.

The presence of modern building codes, requiring the installation of fire sprinklers, smoke detectors,  self-closing doors and fire-resistant building materials all contributed to minimizing the fire’s spread and impact.
